Home…

In the past year, we have not quite known what home really is. Our home has been various motel rooms, homes we stay in for a night, our parents’ residences.

We have all adapted well. The girls will often ask, “When are we going home?” meaning the current hotel room or house we are staying in. But really these are not our home. We lived in Montana for 10 years–most of our married lives. Andy was raised in a home in Wisconsin. I was raised in a home in Minnesota.

But none of these are home either. Currently we are packing our duffels, suitcases and bins to make the move to Moldova. We will find an apartment and call it home. We are so excited for that day when we can begin to put down new roots in a country we do not know. We look forward to having a place to call home for more than a night or two.

But even in Moldova we will not truly be home. Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” That will be our true home…for eternity. It is the home we all long for. This is the reason we have had no physical home for the past year, traveling near and far to raise our funds.

This is why we leave family and friends to establish a new home in the former Soviet Union. We want to share the salvation Jesus offers and give out directions to an eternal home. The joy of following Jesus is magnified when we watch others come to know Him too.

Are you longing for heaven? Are you waiting for that home? Are you seeking those you can take with you?

Longing for home,

Nancy Raatz
